Loro Location Compared to Jinja

Uganda is a big country and there are a lot of people doing good work. Today we’d like to highlight the great work of our friends at Shepherd’s Heart International Ministry (SHIM) and Caring Hands International Ministries (CHIM).

A few weeks ago, members of our WE International Uganda Team traveled nearly seven hours with SHIM and CHIM to bring medical care, agricultural training, and the gospel to the Loro region in northern Uganda. To be clear, this was primarily an effort by SHIM and CHIM. But WE International was happy to come along for the ride and give a shout-out to these two organizations.

The mission was centered in the village of Adigo, a largely agrarian area, with limited access to healthcare, education and economic opportunities. The area is predominantly inhabited by the Lango people, many of whom rely on subsistence farming.

Access to quality medical care is minimal, and churches play a vital role in community mobilization and support.

The villagers’ response in the area was overwhelming. The medical outreach screened more than 2,300 people, with many of these receiving treatments and even undergoing surgical procedures.

The team also provided training sessions to empower local farmers with practical skills that can enhance household income and food security. These subjects included improved farming methods for sustainable agriculture, production of herbal and medicinal beverages, use of organic fertilizers, and soap making using local ingredients.

Finally, the team led an evangelical outreach that drew hundreds of people from area villages, many of whom made commitments. The local church, with the support of SHIM and CHIM, plans to continue to follow up with continued medical care, training, and spiritual support.
