Aside from the WE Restore Home graduation ceremony about which I wrote last week, the highlight of our trip to Uganda had to be the grand opening of the new WE Care Ministries Health Care Centre in Kalungami, a village near Musima.

The Health Care Centre will allow our WE International Uganda staff to not only meet the needs of the villagers in the immediate area, but the clinic will also act as a medical services hub providing quality medical care, referrals, and health education for the thousands of Ugandans living in the area.

Of course, the grand opening was more than a celebration; there was work to do. The staff and volunteers at the Health Care Centre saw 134 patients on the first day, the overwhelming majority of which were women and children. The team treated 166 conditions–yes, many villagers were suffering from multiple maladies–including diabetes, malaria, hypertension, respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, and ulcers. Notably, the staff provided prenatal care to five pregnant women.

While the construction of the Health Care Centre is complete, we are continuing to acquire additional diagnostic, laboratory, and treatment equipment. However, the Health Care Centre is now equipped to handle the deliveries for the five pregnant women living in the area who were seen at the grand opening. I am looking forward to telling you about the first baby born at the Health Care Centre, which could be any week now.

Formally classified as a Health Care Centre III by the Ugandan Ministry of Health, the clinic will endeavor not to compete with or duplicate the services that are offered by other quality health care providers in the area. However, the services of these other health care providers are outside the reach of most local Ugandans, due to cost, lack of transportation, and lack of awareness. The WE Care Ministries Health Clinic will provide referrals to these other facilities and, if need be, provide transport and the funds to make these quality health services available to Ugandans coming to the clinic. The clinic staff already has referral arrangements with hospitals and clinics that provide day surgeries, orthopedic care, dental care, obstetrics, and pediatric care.

WE International shows the love of Christ to the most vulnerable women, children, and families in Eastern Uganda, like Ugandans in need of health care. These efforts rely solely on your contributions. When you click the link below, all of your donations will support our efforts in Uganda.

Thanks for all you do.
