Teddy’s Story
Teddy Amulen was orphaned at the age of 8 and went to live with her grandmother on Lingira Island. Were it not for the WE Educate program, Teddy would not have been able to obtain an education. Given the limited options for young women and teens on Lingira Island, lacking an education likely would have sentenced Teddy to marriage at a teenager or prostitution.
Upon passing her Senior 4 exam–Senior 1-4 is similar to high school–Teddy then entered the Early Child Development Program at the Nile Vocational Institute with continuing support from the WE Educate program.
After successfully completing her classwork, Teddy went on to successfully complete her student teaching assignments.
Today, Teddy works for Funky Totoz Junior School in Jinja, helping to educate and give back to the next generations of Ugandans.
